Overview of A179 Tube
ASTM A179 Tube is manufactured as per ASTM A179 and ASME SA179 standards, with a carbon content of 0.06 to 0.18 percent, manganese content of 0.27 to 0.63 percent, and phosphorus and sulfur each limited to 0.035 percent max. Unlike welded tube specifications, A179 tubes are produced without a seam, giving them uniform strength around the full circumference and a smooth internal surface favorable for fluid flow and heat transfer. These tubes are supplied in the annealed condition to provide good ductility for tube end expansion into tube sheets, and are often selected where seamless construction is preferred for critical cooling and condensing systems.
